ACTIVITY OF THE LABORATORY

The University of Zenica launched the vocational study Production Business with specializations in Wood Processing Technology and Industrial Design in Wood Processing. The aforementioned study is the result of the involvement of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica, the University of Zenica and partner institutions (Government of Ze-Do Canton, REZ Agency, PK and others). The study was designed based on the modern achievements of the European model of profiling studies of this type and the 50:30:20 concept, i.e. 50% teaching subjects of production directions and technologies, 30% subjects of the economic group and 20% general professional teaching subjects. The study is aligned with the study/scoring credit system, the so-called ECTS model (European Credit Transfer System) and enables vertical and horizontal transfer of students as one of the fundamental determinants of the Bologna Declaration, to which the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a signatory. The fundamental basis for the development of this study was the opening of this laboratory, which, in cooperation with the laboratories of the institute and faculty, should form the basis of the future development of the Center for Excellence in Woodworking, which is being done as a project with the University of Bern (Switzerland). The laboratory conducts training in the following areas:

• analysis of technologies and available workforce in the wood processing industry,
• the potential of biomass as an energy resource,
• properties of wood, durability and protection of wood,
• ergonomic design and modeling,
• three-dimensional (3D) scanning of simpler elements and their computer modeling
• technical documentation (constructive and technological documentation),
• examination of furniture and furniture parts,
• standardization and EU technical regulations for wood processing,
• woodworking tools,
• hydrothermal treatment of wood,
• chipboards and fiber boards,
• CNC machines for wood processing, LabDD-3
• basics of CNC programming with practical exercises,
• optimization of wood processing technology,
• techno-economic modeling of products,
• technology of making chairs and technology of making glued panels,
• surface treatment technology (varnishing),
• practical work on the machine (Materwork, Mater Cabinet)
