Laboratory activity:

LORAM is a laboratory for cutting and machine tools, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Zenica, which operates within the Department of Production Technologies.

The LORAM laboratory is intended for the education of students of all levels of education, scientific-research work and production activities. LORAM provides practical support to students in studying and overcoming problems in the field of production engineering. Through the teaching activities carried out at LORAM, students are given the necessary knowledge of the procedures and methods of material processing, i.e. the transformation of preparations into workpieces and final products using computers, CAD/CAM software, classic and modern tools and CNC machines, and in this way it also facilitates their involvement in production processes in the industry, as well as the acquisition of the necessary knowledge, abilities and skills to start their own businesses.

In addition to student education, LORAM offers the following:

  • Educational seminars in the field of metal processing with demonstration,
  • Production services for processing very hard materials (over 60 HRC) by high-speed milling on a 5-axis GDM – Gildemeister Deckel Maho machining center,
  • Production services of high-speed turning-milling,
  • Production services for the finishing of very soft materials (< 100 HB),
  • Designing technological processing procedures,
  • Testing the accuracy of machines based on the principle of laser interferometry - Renishaw ML-1o laser (linear precision, angular deviations, straightness of movement axes, table flatness...),
  • Quick detection of the degree of accuracy of the machine based on the principle of the QC10 Ball-bar system,
  • Easy Laser D525 for determining the geometrical parameters of the machine,
  • Compensation of the measured error of the CNC machine using Error Compensation Software, without intervention on the mechanical elements of the system,
  • 3D CAD design of your products in the SolidWorks software package, generation of machine G-code, for processing complicated shapes and making them on a high-speed 5-axis milling machine,

Renishaw ML 10 laser interferometer

The Renishaw ML10 has set the industry standard when it comes to laser calibration accuracy and reliability. The basic change is the calibration of machine tools. Calibration increases machine performance through targeted maintenance and corrects linear positioning errors using error compensation.

The ML10 uses light interference as a measurement method.

The ML10 offers the following features:

  • Measurement accuracy: ±0 7, μm/m
  • The resolution of the system is 1 nm at a movement speed of max. 1 m/s
  • Measuring range up to 80 m (gold optics)
  • The laser source is a helium neon laser tube (CLASS II)
  • Possible measurements of squareness, position, inclination, flatness

Ballbar system QC10

The QC10 ballbar system offers simple and fast geometry testing of cnc machines (often less than 10 minutes per machine). The highly portable QC10 ball automatically detects and diagnoses a range of machine geometry and motion errors.

Measurement accuracy: ±0.5 µm (at 20 °C)

Laser device – Damalini D525

Easy-Laser Damilini provides measurement and alignment options:

  • Shaft alignment
  • Installation of pulleys
  • Vibration measurement
  • Foundation leveling
  • Flatness measurement
  • Alignment of machine tool spindles

Kistler dynamometer

It enables precise measurement of all components of cutting forces.

Mahr pertometer M1

It enables accurate measurement of all surface roughness parameters (Ra, Rz, Rmax...) and automatic report extraction

MahrSurf TS50 optical microscope

Digital microscope with 3D and 2D surface imaging, wear measurement, and CAD data export.

Measuring field (mm): 45 x 33

Profile resolution: 1/10000

Number of measuring. points: approx. 1.3 million (1280 x 1024)
