Šefket Goletić was born in 1953 in Živinice, where he completed elementary school and secondary medical school in Tuzla. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate/master's studies in Ecology and Environmental Protection at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Sarajevo. Likewise, he completed his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Sarajevo by defending his master's thesis on the topic: "Dynamics of heavy metals in the ecosystem of the Zenica region under conditions of different industrial loads".

In the period from 1978 to 1998, he worked in environmental protection and inspection supervision in the field of environmental protection and as the head of the Department for Inspection Supervision in the field of urbanism, environmental protection and occupational safety in the Municipality of Zenica, and from 1998 to 2022 as a cantonal water inspector in the Zenica-Doboj canton. Since 2022, he has been working at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica as a teacher for the narrower scientific field of Engineering Ecology and as the head of the Department of Environmental Engineering. As a mentor, he successfully produced three PhDs, 14 Masters and 26 graduates. He was the chairman of the committee for the evaluation and defense of two doctoral theses, as well as 8 master's theses and 14 graduate theses. He is the author of 6 books and more than 145 scientific, professional and review papers in the field of Environmental Engineering. He was the leader of more than 160 international and domestic scientific research and professional projects, as well as development and professional projects in the field of environmental engineering.
