HISTORY
The establishment of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica was preceded by the establishment of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in Metallurgy at the Faculty of Metallurgy in Zenica. It was the period of the seventies of the twentieth century, when the area of central Bosnia was industrially developing and metal processing capacities were expanding. For this reason, despite the enrollment of a large number of students at the existing mechanical engineering faculties in Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka, there was a noticeable lack of graduated mechanical engineers. In particular, "Zeljezara Zenica" expressed the need for mechanical engineers. Fluctuation of personnel coming from abroad and the difficult to solve housing issue were an additional factor that indicated the necessity of training one's own personnel base. In addition, in the department for mechanical engineering in metallurgy, students could choose, direct and specialize in the maintenance of metallurgical plants, while there was no such orientation at other faculties. Metal complex "Bratstvo" Novi Travnik, Foundry in Turbet, "Slobodan Princip Seljo" in Vitez, "Slavko Rodić" in Bugojno and others had great needs for graduated mechanical engineers.

However, RMK Zenica and the Metallurgical Institute "Hasan Brkić" (now the Metallurgical Institute "Kemal Kapetanović") in Zenica expressed a special interest in graduate engineers in order to create scientific research potential that will be trained in the field of mechanical engineering in metallurgy. RMK Zenica, by the decision of its Workers' Council, undertook to finance the course for mechanical engineering in metallurgy until the moment of taking over the financing by republican funds. With the same decision, RMK Zenica undertook to provide the construction of classrooms and the purchase of equipment. School year 1973/74. the first generation of students was enrolled. The founders of the department for mechanical engineering in metallurgy were RMK Zenica, Metallurgical Institute "Hasan Brkić" and the Zenica Municipal Assembly. In 1976, 167 students already attended this course.

Given that the area of central Bosnia is traditionally a mining region, new technologies and the modernization of central Bosnian mines have led to a sudden need for graduate mechanical engineers with specific knowledge of mining equipment and technology. For this reason, Rudnici Zenica is launching an initiative to introduce the general mechanical engineering course, which is also interested in companies from the metal industry in the Zenica region. Faculty of Metallurgy, where he was already in 1973/74. The Mechanical Engineering in Metallurgy department started working in 1976, accepted the initiative of Rudnik Zenica and at its 3rd session on February 26, 1976. launched an action for the establishment of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica. An Elaborate on the need to establish the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica was prepared, and the Faculty of Metallurgy provided all the necessary documents for the establishment. By decision of the Workers' Council of the Community of Basic Organizations of the Zenica Ironworks, number 100110/128, dated March 11, 1977. and the Zenica Municipal Assembly, number 01-612-4, dated March 31, 1977. the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was founded in Zenica. By the same decisions, the Registrar's Committee was formed with the task of making preparations for the start of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica. The registrar commission consisted of:

  • Nikola Gostiša, full professor, Faculty of Metallurgy in Zenica,
  • Nikola Sedlar, full professor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo,
  • Vojin Bijelić, full professor, Faculty of Metallurgy in Zenica,
  • Vladimir Hrdlička, full professor, Faculty of Metallurgy in Zenica.
The Republic Secretariat for Education, Science, Culture and Physical Culture of the SR BiH gave consent to the establishment of the Registrar's Commission. The registrar's committee also passed the Decision on the curriculum, enrollment conditions and study rules at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica based on the approval of the Executive Board of the Zenica Municipal Assembly, number 02-612-43/77, dated 02.06. 1977 and the Decision of the Workers' Council of the Zenica Ironworks, number 10-01-10/195, dated 05.05.1977. years. The commission proposed that the curriculum be the same as the one used to teach the existing course for mechanical engineering in metallurgy at the Faculty of Metallurgy, with the difference that for the course in mining, instead of the courses Metallurgical Technology and Metallurgical Machines and Plants, the courses Mining Technology and Mining Machines are introduced and facilities. The commission also made a decision to hire teachers and associates from the Faculty of Metallurgy to conduct classes.

The Zenica Municipal Assembly at the joint session of all councils on September 15, 1977. issued a decision on the appointment of the temporary Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica under establishment, number 01-023-64/77, whose members were:

  • Momčilo Princip, B.Sc., delegate of the Socio-Political Organizations of the Zenica Ironworks.

At the first session of the temporary Council held on September 30, 1977. in 2010, Prof. Dr. was unanimously appointed. Rudolf Kristić as acting dean. At the proposal of the Student Union, the temporary Council elected Posavljak Strain, a fourth-year student, as the student vice dean. At the first session, the Council determined on September 15, 1977. as the starting date of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica. In addition, the temporary Council made a decision to announce elections for the formation of the Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica. The first Council of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was elected on May 15, 1978. year and chose prof. as its president. Vojin Bijelić, for the dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Rudolf Kristić and for vice dean assistant professor Idriz Mujkanović. Jozić Nedeljko was elected as the student vice dean.

Almost fifty percent of classes at the Faculty of Metallurgy and Mechanical Engineering were conducted as integrated classes. In addition to the permanent teaching staff, a certain number of teachers and associates from other organizations were hired.

Immediately at the beginning of the work of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica, certain problems appeared: classes were held in the premises of the Faculty of Metallurgy, so there were minimal satisfactory conditions for conducting lectures and auditory exercises; the immediate consequence of that problem was an unfavorable teaching schedule; At the beginning of its work, the faculty did not have a laboratory for professional subjects, so laboratory exercises were performed mainly in work organizations with a minimum number of classes; the lack of laboratories reduced the scientific work of teachers to desk work; there were not enough cabinets for the work of permanently employed teachers and associates and rooms for administration.

The Council of the Faculty is on 04.12.1978. made a decision on the temporary placement of the Faculty in the former premises of the Technical High School. For the adaptation of the building, funds were approved from SIZ for higher education, the founder and the Faculty.

The Faculty Council on 15.01.1979. made a decision on the formation of the Commission for the preparation of the report on the establishment of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica.

At the session of September 14, 1979. The Statute of the Faculty was adopted in 2010, which incorporated changes to the curricula. The building of the technical school was taken over for the needs of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering by decision of the Faculty Council on September 16, 1980. years. Amendments to the Statute of the Faculty were made on May 27, 1982. years. Those decisions related to the subjects of the study of mechanical engineering and the teaching process, which was adopted to last 36 working weeks for the first year of study, and 38 weeks for the other years of study. The basic act, the Statute of the Faculty, was changed in 1985 and then in 1988. At the session of the Faculty Council held on September 13, 1989. a decision was made on the formation of the RJ Institute of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, which began operating on October 1, 1989. years. This unit grew out of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, which was established in 1981.

During the war, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Zenica was declared an institution of special interest. By decision of the Government of RBiH dated 04/30/1993. In 2008, the Management Board of the Faculty was appointed, consisting of:
